Local Teens Give Back

Two adorable Girl Scouts who last month learned how to sew BURP cloths, took their new found skill and on their own purchased diapers, fabric and created beautiful BURP cloths for the BURP Ministry.

Thank you Heather and Sarah, the BURP cloths are not only beautiful but beautifully sewn. The new moms that will receive these will be so delighted to know you made them.

We hope you will keep on sewing and will join us again for another sewing event.
Blessings to you both for your unselfish act of kindness.

BURP reaches out

The BURP Ministry had the honor of donating Burp Cloths to a local and international church in February, 2010.

We also had the pleasure of having Pastor Alejandro from Mendoza, Argentina, over for dinner while he was here in the States. He shared about his church and their needs and was happy to take BURP cloths home to give to the new moms and to their local orphanage.

Pastor Juan and his wife Carmen from Santa Ana, CA, were delighted to take burp cloths back to their church family. Pastor Juan shared that the mom's had tears in their eyes, they were so happy to receive them.

Such a simple expression of brotherly love, a simple BURP cloth was all it took to blend continents together, that is what it is all about!

1Peter 1:22 "So that you have sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart."

BURP Ministry Fun 1-31-2010

Moms, daughters and others enjoyed a sewing fun day. It has been a real treat having the younger generation join us. Ellen and her two daughters, Olivia (Girl Scout) and Hannah learned to sew and became very skilled at their handiwork. A special thank you to my neighbor Linda for joining us for the first time and to Suzanne who is so faithful in her service to the Burp Ministry. We could not do it without you all. The burp cloths made will go to Camp Pendleton, Casa Teresa, Hannah's House and to the Caribbean on a PEACE Mission trip.

"...your generosity will result in thanksgiving to God. For this service you perform not only meets the needs of God's people, but also produces an outpouring of gratitude to God."
2 Cor. 9-11b-13

What a Gift

Our Burp Sewing events are always so much fun for we never know who will come to sew. It's Gods way of keeping us asking him for provisions. Well we had a heavenly surprise.

It says in Gods word to "Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously... for God loves a cheerful giver. And God is able to make All grace abound to you, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work." 2 Cor. 9:7-8

Well a very special and cheerful giver, Kathy Carlisle, showed up at our front door with a bag of already sewn beautiful burp cloths 43 of them, now that is what I call divine generosity and a real blessing to those that will receive them.

Thank you Kathy for your wonderful gift of love they are beautiful.

Blessings to you, Lynda and Erin

Divine Multiplication

I was thinking about the adorable Girl Scouts this morning and how they were like the little boy in the Bible that shared his lunch with Jesus. Which as you know ended up feeding 5,000 people. These girls also shared what they made, they offered their time and resources in a spirit of service to moms and babies they would never meet. But through the BURP ministry these deserving women would receive these beautiful burp cloths the girls made. A life lesson in how God multiplies much when a little is given.
"To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and he will have an abundance.' Matthew 25;29

Thanks again girls for a great day.

Girl Scouts BURP

Yes Girl Scouts BURP too!!!
The BURP Ministry had a fabulous time with these wonderful young ladies last Sunday, 1-10-2010. This Junior Girl Scout troop has been together since kindergarten and they were the sweetest young ladies, (11 and 12 yr olds) they were all so excited and ready to learn. We had 8 girls and two moms join us, some of the girls had never sewn before so they were thrilled to be able to give sewing a hands on try. My daughter, Erin and my sons girlfriend, Kate and I, taught the girls how to cut, iron, sew and package the burp cloths. What was so special is that now they will be able to sew these at home and on their own or as a troop in the future. The girls made and completed 41 burp cloths which was a record, they were sewing up a storm. These burp cloths will be going to a local charity “Casa Teresa” in Orange and to the Camp Pendleton Marines wives.

These girls gave not only of their time but of their money, for they purchased the diapers and brought them washed and ready to create. The BURP Ministry is proud of these girls for usually we find ways of spending money on our selves but they gave from their hearts. For God loves a cheerful giver" 2Corinthians 9:7-10

Our next monthly sewing event will be on January 31st when two of the girl scouts who were unable to make it will be coming with their moms to learn the skill they need to complete their sewing merit badge. The whole troop will again be joining us February 28th for our normal last Sunday of the month sewing event.

Hoping you will join us too!

BURP Ministry how it all started

“Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them,
for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.” Luke 18:16
BURP Ministry;
So you ask how did it all begin?? When daughter Erin gave birth to our first granddaughter Rylynn in Dec. 2007 burp cloths were needed and so I began to sew burp cloths for Erin and her friends. One day while on a walk we thought wouldn’t it be fun to have a ministry and make burp cloths for moms that needed to know someone was thinking of them and praying for their baby.

The next fun thing was to think of a name which had to include BURP so we thought of an acrostic word for each of the letters in the word BURP and came up with Baby U R Precious, for everyone’s baby is precious and precious to God. We contacted the Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo and started working with them in a program that offered help to moms in need in the local area.

So a group of friends got together and started sewing burp cloths and gave them to the hospital to be distributed. We also started working with a local organization “Casa Teresa” in Orange that provides housing for unwed pregnant women who are alone and have nothing. When Erin contacted them to see if they would like burp cloths the director said oh my YES we always get blankets but never any burp cloths and I was just praying about that need. So we have partnered with Casa Teresa providing them burp cloths. Then we contacted our church, Saddleback Church and started working with the PEACE ministry teams in supplying them with burp cloths to take on their mission trips. So far we have given over 200 burp cloths and they have gone around the globe. Africa, Malawi, Argentina, Chile, China, Uruguay, Orange County.

In 2008 we had a friend design a logo for the BURP Ministry from a reference in the Bible that spoke to what we were trying to achieve. The logo consists of three birds sitting amongst a zig zag field of flowers. The three birds represent a mommy, baby and Jesus, with Jesus being the center and foremost in our lives.

It is written in Luke 12:23-24, “Life is more than food, and the body more than clothes. Consider the ravens: They do not sow or reap, they have no storeroom or barn; yet God feeds them. And how much more valuable you are than birds!
In Luke 13:34, “How often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings”.

Each month a loving group of volunteers come to help sew the burp cloths that will be distributed. We recognize that we all have different strengths, purposes, passions, gifts, abilities and roles in the Kingdom of God. But the women, who serve this ministry, value their faith and want to give back in a healthy and refreshing way.
“Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord” “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also”, Luke 12:34. We so appreciate these women and the time they give to the BURP Ministry.
